The role of the SENCo is one of the most demanding and complex roles in school. It involves extensive amounts of strategic thinking, leadership, collaboration and a significant helping of specialist knowledge and understanding of needs and legal systems. This course is designed to provide you with practical tools, strategies and resources to implement straight away. There will also be opportunities to discuss specific challenges with the trainer and network with others.

Understand the SEND Code of Practice;
Unpick the legal context of the Role;
Gain a deeper understanding of the role of the Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) in supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND);
Identify the sections of the EHCP;
Know when and how to request an Education, Health, and Care Needs Assessment (EHCNA);
Be familiar with the legal timelines and expectations of the EHCP process;
Learn how to focus on SMART targets;
Collaborate effectively with all parties involved in a child's EHCP;
Identify the key steps in the annual review process;
Understand how to plan and write up annual reviews
Look at efficient ways to set up/review effective systems;
Examine auditing interventions and support;
Understand ways to ensure successful transitions;
Measure achievement and evaluate the experiences of pupils with SEND;
Gather evidence for Ofsted inspection;
Gain confidence to effectively present data and Information;
Developing an action plan.
