Menopause in the Workplace – Key Essentials

New-website-graphics

Course introduction

Did you know:
One in six people (17%) have considered leaving work due to a lack of support in relation to their menopause symptoms, and a further 6% have left work. (CIPD report 2023)

The Equality Act 2010 bars discrimination based on sex, age, and disability, thereby encompassing much of the discrimination associated with menopause.

This half day course aims to bridge that gap by providing comprehensive insights into menopause and its implications for both employees and employers. Participants will gain a deep understanding of menopause, including its physiological aspects and common symptoms, as well as explore strategies for navigating this transition in the workplace effectively. Through interactive sessions and case studies, attendees will learn how to foster a supportive work environment, implement inclusive policies, and provide meaningful support to employees experiencing menopause-related challenges. There will also be opportunities to discuss specific challenges with the trainer and network with others.

What we will cover throughout the day

  • Discuss what is the menopause and how it can affect colleagues at work;

  • Understand your organisation’s Duty of Care towards menopausal staff;

  • Unpick the key areas of the UK Employment Law regarding menopause;

  • Understand the definitions of different stages associated with and hormones involved in both perimenopause and menopause;

  • Recognise the physical and mental impact of the menopause and how it can affect both the body and the brain;

  • Discuss how to ensure employee talent is supported and appropriate adjustments made at work;

  • Gain awareness of the 34 typical symptoms and the challenges they might bring;

  • Know what adjustments can be made at work to support menopausal employees;

  • Discuss how to offer support to loved ones and colleagues experiencing symptoms;

  • Look at ways to creating a supportive work environment for all.

Andrea Newton

Over the last 24 years working with organisations across many sectors, Andrea has earned the reputation as a straight-forward, down to earth speaker, who enables people to get comfortable... with the uncomfortable and engage with the more sensitive subjects such as mental health, menopause and suicide prevention. A qualified trainer, tutor and accredited menopause coach, author, speaker and post-menopausal mother, she has excellent feedback from clients who find her approach accessible and often humorous. Using her own lived experience, alongside her learned expertise, she shares information and offers insights that are useful, eye-opening and valuable, and has the ability to engage an audience, whether in person or online, through her high energy delivery style. Definitely one to recommend for truly facilitated learning rather than simply a programme presenter.
