Course introduction

An interactive workshop which allows managers to explore and understand key areas of employment law governing the management of people.

This interactive workshop will allow managers in education to explore and understand key areas of employment law governing the management of people within an education setting. This will enable them to better manage their HR responsibilities and support teams with specific issues, including:

• Creating the employment relationship
• Avoiding unfair dismissal – ending the employment relationship properly and fairly
• Managing sickness absence – the pitfalls and how to avoid them
• Disciplinary policies and procedure
• Deciding on and implementing disciplinary action
• Avoiding discrimination – diversity, discrimination legislation and tackling bullying and harassment
• Learner led practical sessions
• Managing tricky issues

Learners will be given the opportunity to share their own experiences and have their particular questions answered.

What we will cover throughout the day

  • Understand the legal elements involved in employment law issues within their working environment;

  • Appreciate the importance of recent case law and critical employment legislation and its impact on decision making that effects the overall success of their school/college;

  • Provide complete and comprehensive management on resolving employment disputes while complying with best practice, ensuring that a proactive management approach is encouraged when dealing with employment issues;

  • Reduce risk and exposure to employment litigation.

Target audience

This course is designed for anyone involved in HR management in education and/or anyone who is involved in managing formal performance management processes in the workplace including the discipline, capability and grievance procedures. Suitable for Supervisors, Team Leaders, First Line Managers, Managers, HR Managers, Senior Managers.

About the venue

  • The course will run via Zoom from 9:30 am – 3:00 pm, however, the trainer will be available 15 minutes before and after the course times to answer any questions.
