Course introduction

Attendance is no longer a data conversation.
It is an inspection conversation, a safeguarding conversation and a leadership credibility conversation.

Many schools can produce attendance reports. Fewer can confidently explain:

Why attendance looks the way it does
What leaders are doing about it.
How strategy aligns with safeguarding, behaviour and curriculum.
How decisions are evaluated and refined.

This 3 hour course helps leaders move from operational attendance monitoring to strategic attendance leadership enabling them to present a coherent, defensible and inspection-ready narrative.

This is not an attendance processes workshop.
It is a leadership confidence session.

What we will cover throughout the day

  • Understand the current inspection emphasis on attendance and persistent absence.

  • Articulate the relationship between attendance, safeguarding, behaviour and curriculum intent.

  • Identify strengths and vulnerabilities within their current attendance strategy.

  • Construct a clear, evidence-informed inspection narrative around attendance.

  • Shift from reactive compliance to confident strategic leadership.

Target audience

Headteachers, Education Welfare Officers, Attendance Officers, Teachers, Deputy Headteachers, SENCo/ALNCo, Pastoral Leads, Classroom Assistants, Support Staff, Family Liaison Officers, Mental Health Leads, Safeguarding Leads, Family Support Workers
