Effective attendance management is key to improving attendance and ensuring all children have access to education. Attendance Officers play a crucial role in managing, monitoring and improving attendance, yet training is often received ‘on the job’. During the course common scenarios will be examined and best approaches discussed.

This course provides a step-by-step guide covering all aspects of best practice including:

• Setting up attendance management procedures in your school;
• Monitoring and tracking all types of absence including recording and using the correct code;
• Effective use of data reports to audit practice, monitor progress and target resources;
• Early Intervention strategies;
• Working with the wider team to address persistent and severe absence.

Research highlights that effective supervision and a supportive working environment can improve the uptake of workplace policies as supervises understand the importance and reason for the policies, better teamwork, relationships and more support in the workplace can also help with professional development, improved communication among staff and facilitated reflection, sharing ideas and problem-solving.
