The role of the SENCO is one of the most demanding and complex roles in school. It involves extensive amounts of leadership, collaboration and a significant helping of specialist knowledge and understanding of needs and legal systems. This course is designed to support you within this role by expanding your knowledge, skills and confidence in the following areas:

Legal Responsibilities
• SEN Code of Practice
• SENCo Role
• Setting up/reviewing effective systems
• The Equality Act 2010 & Reasonable Adjustments

Developing an effective SEN Department
• Auditing interventions/support
• Effective interventions – sharing good practice
• Effective deployment of SEN Support Staff
• Developing Pupil Voice
• Working in partnership with parents

Whole School SEN
• Providing effective staff CPD
• Promoting differentiation in the classroom
• Setting up a staff resource bank
• Ensuring successful transitions

Preparing for Inspection
• Measuring achievement and evaluating the experiences of pupils with SEN
• Gathering evidence for Ofsted inspection
• Effectively presenting data and information
• Developing an action plan


Target Audience

For new SENCos and SENCos wanting to refresh/review their practise.


Further information

Times: 9:30am – 3:00pm live online training via Zoom
Trainer will be in the room at 9:15am and until 3:30pm to answer any questions or for further information etc.
Breaks for mid morning and afternoon including an hour for lunch will also be given.
Questions and discussions are welcome throughout the training. We want to make this your day.
